Larry welcomes you and kicks off the course with the all-important topic of gain staging, which ensures you'll have sufficient headroom in your session, followed by a quick discussion of setting up a rough mix based on volume. Then, discover how transient-shaping can help create space in the track by reducing the decay level in your top loops. Stereo imaging is covered next, where you'll learn how to create front/back perspective by making some sounds more mono and spreading out others.

Next, explore the subject of sidechaining to hear how it helps create the signature pumping sound of the genre, which also saves additional headroom that can later be cashed in for extra loudness. Also discover how to create a "taller" mix by filtering the high and low ends, which also aids in enhancing the 3D image. Larry demonstrates next how the Music Math app can be used in calculating compression attack and release times.

There's much more as well, including additive EQ (for selectively highlighting signature instruments and creating separation and mix clarity), saturation (for injecting vibe and energy), spatial effects (early reflections and reverb), and parallel compression (adding extra energy and groove to certain instrument groups).
